Michael Sametz

Michael was born with right hemiplegic cerebral palsy, and was highly active in several sports (badminton, golf, skiing / snowboarding, and soccer) growing up. Sport was and is hugely beneficial to improving strength and fine motor skills in his affected right side. Michael found cycling through an adaptive multisport program at age 12 and began racing at 14. At 18, he competed for Canada at his first Para-Cycling World Cup in Spain. Michael had international success in Para-cycling until late 2019 when he began experiencing symptoms of RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport). After a rollercoaster of a recovery and with a new outlook on high-performance sport, Michael returned to competition in 2023. In his second international event back in Para cycling he medalled at the 2023 Para cycling Road World Championships placing third in the Menโ€™s C3 Individual Time Trial. Outside of sport, Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary.
